Placement 2 (Year One): Community Hospital

January 2026.

The hospital that I was allocated had mixed reviews from the comments that I heard whilst in univeristy. I was slighty nervous that it would influence my perception of it when starting there, but I put on a brave face and wiped any ideas of what it may have been like.

It was situated in a city, but it was not the primary one for it. You could say that it was a step down hospital for some patients, but it also took in planned operations.

My mentor was softly spoken and created a calmness for the people she interacted with. I was wondering if this would be a good thing for me or not, as I am sometimes a bit much. Nevertheless, four weeks went past quickly, I gained a strong insight into the hospital setting, as well as getting to know the staff nurses and healthcare support workers on the ward, who did a great job of running it.
